EBOMAF-TOGO: Occupational health and safety at work at the heart of construction sites' concerns

"Worksite accident", "Health and employee safety" are the subjects that formed the second round of the foramations initiated by the EBOMAF Group, in collaboration with the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) of Togo from 25 to 27 August 2021 at Adidogomé's living base in Lomé.

The aim was to retrain staff on environmental and global issues in the construction sector. A joint team of trainers from the Directorate of Labour Inspection, the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) and a doctor from the Ministry of Health provided several modules. She trained committee members on occupational safety and health issues.

During the three days of the session, they followed several topics with attention: safety and health legislation in Togo, the role and functioning of the Committee on Safety and Health at Work (CSST), the approach to risk analysis, the analysis of accidents at work using the tree of causes method.

The trainers also provided practical advice for the committee's work with a particular focus on raising employee awareness of behaviours to avoid workplace accidents. The theoretical sessions were supported by a field trip to better understand the modules delivered.

The trainers expressed their total satisfaction with the accompanying measures and made observations in order to improve the current arrangements within the company.

The different committees set up by the EBOMAF group now have the task of working to improve safety and health at work by accompanying their peers.

At the end of the training, CSST President Yentchablé Kampatibe said that he had gained a better knowledge of risk prevention. "The committees are now mastering approaches to convince colleagues to comply with safety instructions and also to expose the employer to measures to improve safety at the site," he reassures.

Aware of the effort made by the organizers during this training, the Labour Inspector and trainer, Ms. Philippine Bélougou expects a strong impact from the work of this team in the field. Of the two road projects carried out by EBOMAF in Togo, two committees were set up at the level of the North and Lomé-Kpalimé in the South, respectively.

In April 2021, the members of the CSST of the Nord-Togo yard received the same training. Complying with occupational safety and health legislation in all countries remains the will of EBOMAF Group CEO Mahamadou Bonkoungou. He particularly encouraged the establishment of committees on his various projects.

The series of training on safety and health at work strengthens those initiated in a quarter of an hour each Monday by the Health Safety and Environment managers since the launch of the Lomé Kpalimé project.
