EBOMAF-SENEGAL: A future solution to water scarcity in Africa
Global freshwater consumption has doubled in the last century, creating a growing tension on this vital resource. As a result, an alarming number of regions across the globe are facing recurrent water shortages, amplified by ineffective management practices and galloping climate change.
Although the planet has enough fresh water to meet the needs of 8 billion people, its distribution remains uneven. Too often, this precious resource is wasted, polluted or exploited in an unsustainable manner. Today, nearly 700 million people in 43 countries live under water shortages. And the projections are even more worrying.

By 2025, 1.8 billion people will live in areas with critical water shortages, while two thirds of the world's population may face water stress. By 2030, almost half of the world's population could be affected, with between 75 and 250 million people directly affected on the African continent. These pressures could force tens of millions of people in arid and semi-arid areas to migrate.
EBOMAF and IB Fish: Local responses to a global challenge
In this alarming context, sub-Saharan Africa, the region most affected by water stress, is mobilizing. EBOMAF, through its Senegalese subsidiary IB Fish, is committed to meeting this challenge. The company is positioning itself as a pioneer with an ambitious vision: turning seawater into drinking water, thanks to innovative and sustainable technologies.
The method chosen is that of reverse osmosis, a technique that allows to purify seawater by passing it under high pressure through a semi-permeable membrane. While this method is recognized for its efficiency, it presents a major challenge: its high energy consumption. But EBOMAF has been able to innovate by adopting an environmentally friendly solution based on solar energy.
To realize this ambition, EBOMAF has invested nearly 100 billion CFA francs, a huge financial effort that reflects the group's commitment to building a sustainable future for Africa.
Building Africa of Tomorrow with EBOMAF
Faced with the environmental and human challenges posed by water scarcity, EBOMAF embodies a glimmer of hope. By combining technological innovation, renewable energy and strategic investment, the group asserts itself as a key player in the fight against water stress in Africa.
With EBOMAF, it is a vision for the future that is written: that of a resilient, innovative and sustainable continent. Together, let us build Africa of tomorrow.
