Major works in Guinea-Conakry: Kankan-Kissidougou under the expertise of EBOMAF

One hundred and ninety-four (194) kilometers! This is the length of road to be developed and paved by EBOMAF in Guinea-Conakry, at an estimated cost of three hundred and five (305) million euros, or approximately two hundred billion (200) CFA francs. The launch of this major project took place on Saturday, June 21st in Kankan, by the President of the Republic, Professor Alpha Condé. This contract further strengthens the reputation of this Burkinabe company in the construction and public works sector in West Africa.

Guinea-Conakry presents a new challenge for the Burkinabe construction and public works company, EBOMAF SA. Following an open international tender, it has been awarded the significant task of implementing the ambitious Kissidougou-Kankan road project, National Route No. 6 (RN 6). This major artery linking Guinea-Forestière to Upper Guinea is currently in a state of advanced disrepair. The road surface of the old route is no longer present. “The reconstruction of this road addresses the pressing needs of the population, who hope to see a resolution to their mobility and trade problems,” explained Mawa Damé, Governor of the Kankan Administrative Region.

The rehabilitation work requires an internationally renowned company. The various civil engineering activities demand proven expertise, and the expertise that EBOMAF has consistently demonstrated has attracted the attention of the Guinean authorities. “EBOMAF was chosen solely based on its competence. There was no favoritism in the awarding of this contract,” President Alpha Condé, President of the Republic of Guinea, told his fellow citizens during a rally he held at the M’Ballou-Mady-Diakité-Glao Stadium on the sidelines of the project launch.

These activities, estimated at three hundred and five (305) million euros, or approximately two hundred (200) billion CFA francs, will result in a modern two-way road, seven (7) meters wide in rural areas and nine (9) meters wide in urban areas, with 1.5-meter shoulders on both sides. The road surface will have the following characteristics: a twenty (20) centimeter base course of natural laterite and crushed stone, a ten (10) centimeter base course of bituminous gravel, and a five (5) centimeter asphalt concrete (AC) surface course.

The Mark of a Construction Leader

“EBOMAF is an internationally renowned company with a proven track record in several countries in the sub-region. We have all the necessary material and human resources for this project. We will execute this road project to the complete satisfaction of the Guinean people.” “We promise a road of the highest quality ever built here, with a lifespan of approximately forty years,” promised Mahamadou Bonkoungou, CEO of the EBOMAF Group.

The planned works on the one hundred and ninety-four (194) kilometers include mechanical clearing and brush removal, topsoil stripping, excavation and removal of all types of debris, backfilling, a laterite foundation layer improved with crushed stone, a bituminous gravel base course, a bituminous concrete surface course, drainage and sanitation works, bridge reconstruction, signage and equipment, relocation of utility networks, environmental measures, and awareness campaigns against STIs/HIV/AIDS.

After Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, and soon Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea will be the place where EBOMAF's reputation will be put to the test for thirty-six (36) months to transform the Kissidougou-Kankan section into a modern road meeting international standards. Under the leadership of its Chairman and CEO, the winning company is working diligently to meet this challenge.

This was evidenced by the impressive display, at the groundbreaking ceremony, of brand-new equipment representing part of the Kissidougou-Kankan construction site's fleet. "Beyond the South-South partnership, this promises to be a fruitful collaboration between Africans. The company's equipment, which I have seen in Kankan and Conakry, suggests a high-quality project," stated Mohamed Traoré, Guinea's Minister of Public Works. Everything is being done to ensure the project's success. Significant human, material, and technical resources are being deployed on the project. The push to modernize the 194 kilometers is irreversible.
