Bitumage of the streets 15.236 and Ringem Nini: A relief for the residents of the Patte d'Oie

While waiting for the end of the work on the roads 15.236 and Baguem Nini at sector n°15 of Ouagadougou, the residents and the users are already enjoying the asphalted deviations for free for their traffic. These improvements will greatly improve the mobility of the population in this part of the capital. In a few months, the dust in heat and the mud of the rainy season will be a souvenir for the residents and users of streets 15,236 and Ringem Nini, at sector 15 of Ouagadougou, Patte d'Oie district.

On Saturday 4 April, they expressed their gratitude to the public authorities and the municipal authorities for taking into account their concerns in the development of the roads of the capital. We're very happy with this street.

This work is timely to facilitate our travel. We thank the initiators and pray to God that everything will go well, says Bernard Nikiema, a local on street 15,236. The work started on 16 January 2009 in the presence of the Head of Government, Tertius Zongo, is proceeding well. The performing company, Bonkoungou Company Mahamadou et Fils (EBOMAF) puts double bites to be on time. Work is under way on earthmoving and construction of sewerage systems. It will only remain to apply the bitumen in a few days, reassures Oumar Bonkoungou, construction manager.

In order to save time in the construction of the project, the company took on its own account, to develop for free two eight-kilometre-long coated deviations of CFAF 200 million. Such an initiative makes it possible to fluidize the traffic in the area and to clear the site for work in a sustainable way. As soon as the deviations were built, residents who believed they were part of the original market had started complaining about their quality. While deviations are a company's own initiative to avoid dust and watering users, says Oumar Bonkoungou, the construction manager. The development of streets 15.236 and Ringem Nini contributes to the improvement of secondary roads between Tengsoaba-Goama Boulevard, Po Road and Leo Road.

They are about four kilometres long and are estimated to be 3.9 billion CFA francs in a firm tranche (financing acquired from the 2008 budget) and in a conditional tranche (financing provided for in the 2009 budget). Tarred deviations are warmly welcomed by residents of this urban area. With these deviations made for free, we circulate freely.

This is the place to congratulate the company on this sacrifice," admits Bernard Nikièma, a local resident. The same trumpet is embroiled by the students who are the biggest users. The last have become the first. We have the privilege here to circulate on tarred deviations, confided Cynthia and Benedict, two young high school girls from the Patte d'Oie.

The rate of execution of the roadside work 15.236 and Baguem Nini is currently estimated between 30 and 40% after a month and a half over a period of 12 months. Every effort is made to finish before the first rains. The time has come for the construction of sewerage networks to avoid any inconvenience at that time. We put a particular emphasis on the realization of dallots and cannibals. Everything happens under the vigilance of the National Laboratory and the control mission, says Oumar Bonkoungou, the construction manager. Care shall be taken to ensure that the quality of the equipment used and the prescribed dimensions of the sanitation channels are respected.

"We are constantly on site to control the materials involved in the work, together with the monitoring mission," says Richard Ouedraogo of the National Laboratory of Building and Public Works (LNBTP). The work is done properly as we have hoped. There is an acceleration and improvement over the planned schedule," adds Abdoulkader Touré, director of GTAH, head of the Monitoring Mission. More than a dozen dallots and hundreds of metres of wide and deep channels are planned on the two tracks to be bitumen at sector 15 of Ouagadougou.
