Opening of the Mouhoun Loop: RN 14 rings the end of the calvary

An old dream that comes true. The bitumen of the Koudougou-Dédougou road is at its end. As a result, this paves the way for the socio-economic development of the Boucle du Mouhoun, as the head of government, Beyon Luc Adolphe Tiao, was able to see during his follow-up tour of the agricultural season on 22 and 23 August in the region.

The Boucle du Mouhoun is the attic of Burkina Faso. This region with a strong agropastoral potential has long been little or no land-locked. Drissa Drabo is a coach driver on the Ouagadougou-Dédougou line. He has known this axis since 1997 for being an apprentice driver and then a transporter since 2003. "We travelled 130 kilometres of the stretch in 4 hours. The road was dotted with holes and stairways. Nowadays, bitumen is in its terminal phase. Already, the journey is coming together in less than three (3) hours," he says.

National Highway 14 is now a two-layer double-way gravel road of seven (7) metres wide with 1.5 metres on both sides. It is built by EBOMAF, which has deployed major resources to meet the challenge. The vastness of the downed work jumps to the eye. The successful undertaking has successfully modernised this route. It is a quality road that offers users. Another national of the Mouhoun Loop region, Ali Drabo, is a poultry merchant. Its activity leads to several localities in the region to buy its goods. "We look forward to the end of the bitumen to travel faster," he said.

Collector, carrier and seller of cereals, Harouna Sana, also rents the fluidity of traffic on the Koudougou-Dédougou road. He admits that the gains in time are real, with less technical damage to the vehicles. Already, the impact of the modernisation of this section is pleasantly felt by users. "The transport of a 100 kg bag of cereals from Dédougou to Ouagadougou costs 1000 CFA francs today instead of 1500 CFA francs previously," said Harouna Sana. Like his predecessors, he welcomed the efforts made by the government and the seriousness shown by EBOMAF in the execution of the project.

On a follow-up tour of the agricultural campaign in the region on 22 and 23 August 2013, Prime Minister Luc Adolphe Tiao suggested that the opening of areas with socio-economic potential in Burkina Faso remains a priority for his government. "The bitumen of the Koudougou-Dédougou road is an old dream that has come true," he congratulated. The mayor of the town of Dédougou, Abel Dabakyo, embitters the same trumpet: "The construction of the Koudougou-Dédougou road was expected for years. The construction site is now almost complete. The route Dédougou-Koudougou is no longer covered by the cross and banner".
